After the disappointment of Chi Phat, we had a short day to Trapeang Rung – supposedly another CBET…. We were given some tips from the gentleman with the bikes in Chi Phat.

We started our day with a 2 hour boat ride (back again to the main road).

The days was through the middle of two Nature reserves/national parks, with some hills to keep us busy….

The wonderful thing about today was the lack of traffic – probably due to it being weekend, and that this was a major road off the side of the major arteries. At times, I was so alone on the road, you could hear every sound from the jungle left and right of the roads.

When we arrived at Trapeang Rung, we “checked” into the recommended guest house….not one of the top addresses we had on this trip – basic accommodation, the bathroom had just a toilet in it (at least that), and no sink, but a shower head right over the toilet (so that everything got wet when you showered).

We meandered down the main road past one “restaurant” after the other – each hat a selection of pots on a table out front (where you would pick what you wanted). Most of the places offered the same selection – most of it unidentifiable but all of it tasty (some of it was extremely spicy – they were nice enough to let us try the various portions before we ordered). What surprised us though, was that there were at least 20 of these places set up along a 1-2km stretch of road with lots of seating, and hardly any traffic in sight – at some point there has to be lots of people coming through here to justify so many restaurants.

The fact that the lady picked out the bugs from the pot before she showed it to us we tried to ignore….
