After a night of jungle sounds the whole night (which were surprisingly relaxing to listen to – I didn’t need my earplugs….),.
We wanted to get on the north side of the Mekong again, without having to backtrack and cross the bridge (about 15km back and 100m vertical – a BIG bridge) as we wanted to visit the Ca Be floating market on our way to Sa Dec.
So, we started the day with a small local ferry across the Mekong (which we probably would never have known about or found if the owner of the bungalows hadn’t told us about it) – for less than 1€ two bikes and two persons.
We cycled along the Mekong for most of the day – the road was quite pleasant, with lots of little bridges for side rivers (some being rebuilt, some just big enough for 2 scooters).
Ca Be was a bustling town, where lots of tourists (day trips from HCMC) go to to see the floating market – we didn’t see much – though we did end up cycling through the street market where normally I would have thought that you can only walk through, but there were all sorts of scooters driving through as well, so…well we did too….
Otherwise an uneventful day, crossing the Mekong a couple of times with ferries…..
Ended up at another home-made bamboo bungalow Homestay in the middle of a plant nursery in Sa Dec, run by some prof at the local university(?) and built all by himself with his students. Other than the challenge of finding the place (the description on AirBnB was not very helpful), it was a peaceful place with unique buildings.
